The artist has donated the full amount of his £25,000 Mercury Prize prize money to the trust for venues, which works to preserve the Britain's independent music venues.

Fender was presented with the award on 16 October as his latest record his work was named the top album of the last 12 months.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I personally would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these locations have permanently closed – approximately 16% of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, top acts such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to help venues survive, by applying a modest fee to their admission fees, which supports smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also participated, collecting over £100k on his recent tour to help thirty-eight grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money helped spaces that were confronting potential shutdown due to issues arising from floods, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Additional spaces obtained funding support in modernizing infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that helped performers and fans.

"The idea that funds from concerts in big venues supports the independent spots, where it all starts for artists like me, is just logical," Fender has stated.

In recent years, they contributed their prize money to the community center that nurtured their band, in addition to other local music groups.

And winners that year M People contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was diagnosed the disease.

"Receiving the award was ample," stated vocalist Small. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the cake. So our winning affected somebody else's life."

Recently, the MVT revealed it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

The first in the city and the other in that location were bought under the public acquisition scheme, which is supported by a national body and supporters who purchase "shares" in the buildings.
