Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. And again, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

New York police released security footage earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries according to reports.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday near MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a new signing in March and was anticipated to become an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
