Followers Urge Detainment of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the actress are demanding that a person who leaped a fence and seized the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A viral footage shows the individual from Australia shoving aside media personnel and lunging at Grande while the performers made its way down a event pathway surrounded by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being detained", though court documents revealed that he was set to be present on the next day. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed features videos of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last year.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user questioned.
Fans Express Concern Over the Star's Past Trauma
Several followers accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote a further response on Instagram.
Some attendees also questioned security officers at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while others demanded social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips shared widely, Grande looked startled when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Numerous of supporters had congregated in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore mall, including several who had waited for as long as many hours before it started.
The film, to be released on November 21, is the second of a two-film adaptation of the well-known Broadway and West End show Wicked, which centers on the unlikely relationship between two contrasting characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of last year in the UK, and received a dozen Academy Award nods, securing several for best costume and artistic direction.
