Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his future after a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory of course but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
